Dr. Vadász’s PhD dissertation (defended in 2022 in Hungary) examined the intersection of cultural property and private international law (PIL), a field in which she has continued her research. Her work addresses several dimensions of international cultural property protection, including the challenges surrounding Hungarian restitution mechanisms and the duties of museums to safeguard objects. She is currently researching the conflict-of-laws implications of digital cultural heritage and developing her first English-language monograph, which focuses on restitution patterns and jurisdictional issues in Central and Eastern Europe.
Contribution
Dr. Vadász intends to contribute by providing comparative perspectives from her region, engaging in discussions on digitalisation and restitution, and supporting the dissemination of research connecting private international law analysis with practical mechanisms for the international protection of cultural property. As the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention central to her work and frequently arises in both her cooperation with Hungarian authorities and academic activities at her research institute, she is particularly motivated to support initiatives that strengthen its practical implementation and continuing relevance.
