Mr Hao Liu’s academic research interests lie in international cultural heritage law and the legal protection of cultural heritage in the People’s Republic of China. He has written and published articles on the restitution and repatriation of looted or stolen Chinese cultural objects from the market nations/museums/individuals. He is a member of the Socio-Legal Association (UK) and a member of the association of Critical Heritage Studies (Australia). He worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the National Museum of China and completed a national project on the acquisition of cultural property (2019.7-2021.7).
He is now working on the development of a research programme focused on cross-disciplinary approaches to art law curriculum development, which aims to harness the considerable potential for cross-disciplinary approaches and methods applied in Archaeology, Art Conversation, Ethics, and Law. This programme will provide an extensive comparative study of international instruments (for instance, the 1790 UNESCO Convention and 1995 Convention in the People’s Republic of China through incorporating it into teaching and scholarship, particularly as part of Heritage law and Private international law).
